With all broadband providers there is going to be pros and cons, this article will point out the most obvious pros and cons, when choosing what type of broadband connection to use.

Broadband Satellite

Pros

True global broadband Internet access availability
Mobile connection to the Internet (with some providers)

Cons

The Fair Access Policy limits heavy usage
One-way satellite service requires the use of a modem or other data uplink connection
The cost to setup satellite broadband can be very expensive and then with a monthly subscription cost
Unreliable: drop-outs are common during severe weather

ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line

Pros

This is available to the majority of the U.K
This can be received through your existing BT telephone line, so you wouldn’t need another line.
This connection will allow you to use a broadband and telephone service at same time.
Several broadband deals available
Always on connection (no time-out)

Cons

May not be available in rural areas
Speeds may slow if several people sharing the network

Cable

Pros

Several broadband deals available
This is available to the majority of the U.K
Always on connection (no time-out)

Cons

Speeds may slow if several people sharing the network
May not be available in rural areas

Wireless

Pros

Do not need a telephone line
No wires
Wifi Hotspots, such as Cafés and Hotels
“On the move” Broadband

Cons

Availability in your area
Security of your network
