Do you want your money to control you, or would you rather control your money? If the latter, then a budget is the tool to help you do it. Those who don't budget may find themselves in all sorts of financial deep seas because they never have enough money when they need it, or they run up debts they cannot pay off. Even if they do manage to survive financially, it is in a hit-or-miss fashion that will certainly not lead them into financial independence in their future.

A budget will allow you to see exactly where all your money is going. Once you find those holes it is leaking out of, you can plug them up. You might find that it is a number of small daily purchases that is running away with all your spare cash. Once you start writing down all that you spend in a week - or do it daily if you tend to forget that magazine. or coffee with a friend - you'll be surprised at all the things you buy that are not really necessary.

It is easy to see where and how to save money once you know what you are doing with it. You can even find ways to save more. Car-pooling or walking to work if you live close enough will certainly save you lots.
