You will want to make sure that your chickens are completely protected not only from predators but also from other problems such as disease and cold weather.

Once you consider all of the basics you can also begin to think about extras that you may want.

Some common items that you may want to consider adding are chicken wire to enclose your yard and also feeders, and straw.
