Building Two-storey Homes
Of course, this vast new choice can leave people wondering where to start. Well, some basic rules of home buying still hold true, despite changing Aussie lifestyles. Try working out how many bedrooms you need for immediate family, and then add one or two, for unexpected visitors, or for elderly parents who may wish to move in with you, down the track. Also, think very hard about how many ensuite bathrooms you need, or how many discrete entertaining or leisure areas. Have a look at those ankle-biters you’ve got crawling or toddling around now, and imagine them aged in their mid teens, or even as young adults. Yes, now you’re getting the picture: what seems like a very big two-storey home the day you move in might start to squeak at the seams ten years down the track if you don’t plan ahead. If you’re going to buy a new home, this is your chance to get it absolutely right, with no compromises. So think about your personal style, and how you welcome your guests. Do you need a large indoor-outdoor informal entertaining area? Do you need a private study, or a home theatre you can close the doors on, keeping noisy movies or computer games away from the rest of the home. Don’t just look at a set of house plans, and assume they will suit you. Where will the kids do their homework? Where can you greet guests in a more formal manner? Do you want a butler’s pantry to keep all the clutter and shopping neatly hidden away, and do you want to be able to access it from the garage, so you can get the shopping in easily when it’s raining. A thousand questions, but a thousand opportunities are on offer, too. Make sure you only deal with reputable builders, and enjoy the journey!
