But there are a few things that you need to be careful of when learning to build your first solar panel… Okay, listed below are the top 3 absolutely awful ways to learn it… 1) Using generic DIY sites as a point of reference. Using generic DIY or How-To sites to help you build a solar panel is a bad idea! I’m speaking from my own experience here… Some time ago, I printed out a couple of DIY solar plans from this How-To (now defunct, unsurprisingly!) website. They claimed that the plans were perfect for beginners and I was so convinced that I paid 10 bucks for them! Turned out the plans was pure nonsense. I had a hard time figuring out the assembling and wiring section. The plans certainly weren’t made for beginners in mind! 2) Using Free DIY solar panel software program. Have you ever heard of a software program that teaches you how to build your own solar panel? No? Well believe me…There is such a program and it was nasty! I bumped into one via a home improvement message board. The software was offered for free. Now the program was supposed to contain interactive step-by-step instructions but once I downloaded it to my PC, my anti-virus detected a harmful Trojan program! So please be careful when you come across such programs. A few friends of mine have stumbled across them online. 3) Using Text-heavy instructional manuals. I believe only people with considerable DIY solar panel experience should refer to text-heavy instruction manual which acts as a refresher course. Text-heavy manuals are not suitable for beginners as the technical details are usually not presented in a simple to follow outline. If you’re a beginner and would like to figure out how to build your own solar panel, you’ll have a better chance of succeeding by watching novice-friendly video instructions.
