Building A Great Website Isn't Enough

On the internet it ain’t like the old sci-fi movie: “If you build it, they will come.” You can build the most beautiful website in the world. It can have a state of the art template, great web copy, a few nice testimonials, some good blog entries, a live chat room, and other bells and whistles, but absolutely no one will ever look at it. It will be lost somewhere in the Ethernet. I know, that’s not what you wanted to hear. So what are the only ways you’ll ever get website traffic?

1) Tell your friends and relatives to go there (this will likely only give you a few sympathy sales). Public personalities or speakers can become known by that means but that doesn’t include most of us.

2) Build an attractive, easy to read, easy to use website with plenty of good content and sales copy (this helps, but does not draw a soul in itself).

3) Find a niche that an audience needs and few are selling and sell it hard. This is really important because some products/services are totally saturated. You may find a product you thought no one needed, but a few thousand desperate individuals may be looking all over the net for what you offer. Still, they may have no earthly idea that you offer it.

4) Make sure you have good meta-tags and the best keywords possible (this can help a bit with search engines, but is just a small part of promotion)

5) Site ranking in Google and other search engines is vital because people rarely go past the first page in searches. Besides keywords, there are other ways to begin ranking higher in search engines, including backlinks, etc. and you must learn all about those methods.

6) Join and submit website address and description to web directories and social networking sites (Can help very gradually to draw traffic as you become known).

7) Write good articles about the products or services of your website and submit them to lots of e-zines. Do an occasional press release. (In time, you may begin to gain recognition as an expert or as someone who sells a solid product)

8) Set up Pay-Per-Click campaigns through which you, basically, pay so much per click to draw interested individuals to click through to your website. This requires some skill and you can blow a ton of money if you just kick off reckless PPC campaigns.

9) Joint venture with others or get others to push your product for a cut in the profits. Or push a company exclusively and possibly get them to, not only offer affiliate percentages, but sponsor the website. It takes time and effort to meet people with whom a joint venture would fit.

10) Learn ways to develop quality opt-in lists of email addresses to market to. One of the best ways to do this is to find some of the better traffic networking sites, buy credits, advertise your website, and begin building a list from opt-in contacts.

11) Use an autoresponder! (aweber is a popular one, starting at about $20 per month). With your autoresponder, begin gaining the trust of your interested list with regularly scheduled emails.

12) Search out and try various internet marketing software and see what works best and is most useful to you. It doesn’t have to be the newest dang product on the internet. If it’s so many years old but is perfect for your needs, stick with it.

13) Decide to concentrate on hiring yourself out to build websites, write website copy, and help others establish a presence on the net. A lot of money can be earned helping others without necessarily selling various products yourself. Your growing skills are invaluable in themselves.
So what are you doing staring mournfully at this page? All is not lost. You’ve just got some work to do. If you bought a storefront for $30,000, you’d have to purchase newspaper, radio, and maybe even TV ads. You’d have to leave thousands of fliers on windshields or doorknobs. You’d gradually have to build a network of first-time customers, then regular clients. Did you think the internet was any different.
Get to work, my friend. This is definitely doable!
