Building A House In Australia

The excitement of building your own house may be tempered by the fact that it is really a time-consuming process that can be fraught with frustration and hidden costs. However, it is certainly a good way to get exactly what you want in a home, specific to your needs and lifestyle. There are certain rules and regulations that must be adhered to of course, so knowing what these are will facilitate the process.

Buying your block of land is the first step and should be easily done, but if you don't intend to build straight away, there is a time limit on how long it can be left vacant. The home must be built and you should be moved into it within two years; not much time when you come to think of it. You can also buy a house and land package from a developer. This will limit your choice of building plans, but upgrades on available plans are usually allowed.

With the upsurge in environmentally friendly practices across the board, governments approve of energy efficient housing. They will often offer a rebate, making certain installation a lot cheaper. But remember there are often hidden costs to building that may include such things as Stamp Duty (if you are not exempt) that can be several thousand dollars.
