Business Advice: Learn From The Compatition- Not From "the Guys"

Cool, you're thinking of opening up a business and becoming a real entrepreneur. In these exciting, modern times, more than ever before, there is a vast amount of manufacturing advancements. Therefore, any aspiring entrepreneur needs to have a strong background in many aspects of modern business applications in order to rule their market.

That means you.

In conjunction with time tested business management, and customer service, and marketing skills, the modern day business also needs to be able to use a wealth of new technologies, among them, internet search engines, web 2.0 marketing and other more progressive varieties of advertising and management. The following article will present to you almost enough information that, after reading it, will be able to claim to be a nearly MBA worthy businessperson, in just a few easy to read paragraphs.

Although the word “competition” has earned itself negative connotations, your businesses competition can actually help you very much to determine good and bad courses of action. First look into what similar businesses are doing successfully, and unsuccessfully. If you can identify something that they are doing successfully, you can consider how to apply that concept to starting your own original project. For instance, consider whether there is anything that they are doing which brings in a lot of business, or encourages customer loyalty. On the other hand, if your competition is doing something that is detrimental to their own business, be wise, and learn from them what not to do. By analyzing your competition you can save yourself from mistakes and make much better decisions. Come to think of it you should probably thank them for it.

Now that you are looking into starting out on the path of building your dream business, don't forget that it helps to really know the business before taking too many risks. What I mean by being "knowing the business" is that it is important to have people that you can reach out to who are well connected in the industry. I know of a guy who dreamed of starting a hardware store, so he requested advice from some acquaintances from the gym, which he didn’t know all too well. After telling “the guys” about his business plan, they both agreed that he was sure to make millions.

The fact is, that the business idea was obviously a first-rate lemon, and he lost a considerable amount of money. Neither one of “the guys” from the gym knew anything about the niche, nor did they know anything about business. From this not-so-heartwarming story we should learn two things. First of all, don't take suggestions from people unless you know them well. And next, don't take recommendations from people who don’t know what they are talking about. Otherwise, you could find yourself throwing away a lot of money.
