Even if you do not plan on living there, you need to spend some time there understanding the place.

There are many stories in Latin America of foreigners who have tried to start up a business there and lost everything. In some cases, this is because they have no person from there helping them. In other cases, it is because they picked the wrong company or person to trust.

Because of this, it is vital that you fully research the market and get to know business people there. This is not the kind of place you can visit for a couple of weeks and sort it all out. You must have patience to develop your business appropriately.

First, it is going to take time to decide where to start your business. Then, it is going to take time to find the right people to work with. And then, you are going to have to deal with the government bureaucracy in getting it all set up. You are not in your own country so you need to respect that things will be done differently than you are used to.

Even with the obstacles, there is money to made through business development Latin America. But it may take a bit more time to build the foundations you need than it does in other locales. If you do, however, it can be a rewarding enterprise.
