Busta Rhymes Mixtapes-the Early Years

There are few artists in the hip hop industry today who are as unique and well known as Busta Rhymes. From the very first Busta Rhymes mixtapes, it was clear that he had a unique style that would take the music world by storm. However, just like every other new artist, he had to prove himself and pave the way to a successful career.

When he was only sixteen years old, Busta Rhymes started his own hip hop music group called Leaders Of The New School. The group included several others who would end up making names for themselves as artists, including Charlie Brown and Dinco D. They began recording Busta Rhymes mixtapes in 1989 and circulating them throughout the Long Island rap scene.

In 1991, all of the Busta Rhymes mixtapes that Leaders Of The New School put on finally paid off. They signed a record deal with Elektra Records and released their debut album, A Future Without A Past. In 1992, they caught the attention of A Tribe Called Quest and appeared on their song “Scenario.” In particular, it was the verse performed by Busta Rhymes that got a great deal of attention.

In 1993, Leaders Of The New School released their second studio album, T.I.M.E., which stood for The Mind’s Inner Eye. The album was successful and it looked as if the group was on their way to rap superstardom. However, Busta Ryhmes’ individual popularity began to wear on the group dynamic and they broke up while appearing on an episode of Yo! MTV Raps.

Although the end of Leaders Of The New School was upsetting, it marked the beginning of Busta Rhymes’ huge success in the industry. The Busta Rhymes mixtapes he had recorded so far, along with the two studio albums, were just the beginning. He was well on his way to becoming one of the biggest names in hip hop.
