Buying A Toaster - What To Look For
Most people use a toaster to toast bread. Sounds simple enough, but what kind of bread? Wide slots are needed to toast artisan bread or bagels, and if you're a English Muffin fan you want a high bread lift so that you don't have trouble fishing them out. Bagel fans benefit from buying toasters with a special bagel setting that toasts it only on the cut side. Genius right! Suddenly the mundane task of buying a toaster doesn't seem so trivial, spend a bit of time doing your homework and you'll be rewarded with a quality product which stands the test of time and saves you much frustration. Another factor to consider is how much counter space you have in your kitchen. You probably don't want a bulky four slice toaster if you have only limited space. It is a good idea to measure your counter space before going out shopping just to be sure that the toaster you buy is the right size for you. How much extra are you willing to pay for your toaster to be stylish? The metal construction of the toaster, LED readouts and special settings will all cost you more. Such extras do not necessarily mean the toaster toasts any better than the cheap toasters, but if contemporary styling is important to you it can definitely be worth the extra price. Believe it or not, even the color of a toaster can make a difference in how it lasts. White toasters looked older faster than other colors or chrome, but chrome has the disadvantage of being easily scratched. Safety counts! Look for a toaster with tops and sides designed to stay cool and make sure the cord will not be located in an inconvenient place when plugged in. A high bread lift also reduces the chances of getting burned or electrocuted when trying to get items out of the toaster. Other items to look for are a dishwasher safe crumb tray (easier to clean) number dials over shade dials (more accurate) and a keep warm feature (stays hot until ready to eat). If you like frozen waffles a defrost feature comes in handy, and a four slice toaster is a great time saver for large families. So if you follow these basic suggestions, you should be able to get a good toaster that will serve you well for years to come!
