One of the most important and must for a student who are willing to pursue their higher education is The College Level Examination Program or CAT Eligibility test. It is a system of testing student’s college level knowledge acquired through course work, independent study, cultural pursuits, travel, special interests, study materials knowledge, Placement Eligibility Skills and professional development. The CAT is comprised of a series of CAT Exams that are organized at testing centers on MBA colleges and university campuses.
CAT Reputation in Colleges
At present there are Over 2,900 colleges and universities accept CAT General and Subject exams for credits and admit students on the basis of this Examination. A CAT test helps the Indian students in B-Schools or universities to win credits for the successful completion of their respective courses for each academic term. It covers the syllabus taught in courses that are taken by most students, as requirements in MBA Course for the first two years of college.
CAT Test Patterns
The CAT tests may have different designs or patterns; some correspond to one-semester courses and some correspond to full-year or two-year courses. The pattern or design is usually given in a CAT exam’s description. Generally, a CAT test is intended to cover material in a one-semester course. A CAT test is usually 90 minutes long, and except for English Composition with Essay, which mostly includes multiple-choice questions or fill-ins.
Eligibility
The minimum score for awarding credit is recommended by the Indian Council on Management Studies (ACMS), but the standard of acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each CAT test is determined by the institutions concerned. Usually, a college or University grants the same amount of credit to students earning satisfactory scores on the CAT test as it grants to students successfully completing that course.
The CAT Management Board
The CAT tests are managed by the College Board, a not-for-profit examination board in India. Founded in the 19th century, the College Board also manages standardized tests, such as the arithmetical problem solving, geometry, statistics, data interpretation, logical reasoning, puzzles, and English language skills.
Applying for CAT and Fee Structure
The current fee for a CAT test is 1100/1200 Rupees for general category students and half of that for SC/ST. The College Board brought in a computer-based version of the CAT tests at national test centers at colleges and universities in July 2001. There are now over 120 MBA colleges and universities that accept CAT score.
CAT Question Blueprint
Common Admission Test had 75 questions with 150 minutes of time duration. If you attended CAT in 2008 you can perform well by studying the methodologies involved. Newbie’s attending CAT can also fine tune their methodology by asking for suggestion to their seniors who have succeeded or attended CAT previously.
CAT Results Statistics
If you notice the past CAT results the exception of CAT 2008 in the last 4 to 5 CATs, the cut off for the Mathematics part did not exceed 30% of the total marks, likewise for the DI also did not exceed 40% of the total marks and that for verbal stood at about 45% of the total marks. CAT 2008 was an odd man out with students managing to score higher in the Quant and DI section. The outcome of it was that most students had a poor score in the Verbal and mathematics section.
