Cadet 150 – The Cadet Forces Celebrate Their 150th Birthday

2010 is going to be extra special for the Cadet Forces as they celebrate their 150th birthday, known as Cadet 150. Initially formed after the Crimean War to help bolster the country's defence numbers, The Cadet Forces are now a voluntary youth organisation which offers young people the chance to develop leadership, teamwork skills, self-discipline and self-confidence.
The Cadet 150 events will not only focus on adult volunteers and current cadets but also on the many people who have been part of this organisation over the years.

All four Cadet Forces (Army Cadets, Sea Cadet Corps, Combined Cadet Force and Air Training Corps) will be involved in the celebrations: exciting events, colourful parades, competitions and expeditions to Africa to celebrate the Cadets 150th birthday.
The events will reflect what is at the heart of the cadet movement: fun, adventure, excitement and community service.

17th February marked the beginning of the major national events with a special reception for 26 selected cadet ambassadors that was held at Buckingham Palace.
Further events throughout 2010 include:
- 2nd June - a reception for adult volunteers at the Guildhall in London
- 6th July - a Royal Review of the Cadet Forces at Buckingham Palace
- Tree planting (in partnership with the Woodland Trust) to represent the lasting legacy of this organisation and its continued appeal to young people
- a fantastic expedition to Lesotho in Africa
- WWI Remembrance activities in November will then conclude the national events

Cadet 150 wants to celebrate the great value that the organisation offers to the youth of today but also wants to be an opportunity for adults who are thinking about supporting the Cadet Forces and for young people to discover this movement.
