Calling For Superman From The Slum! What True Heroism Is?
Just this day I accidentally dropped on CNN page and a young man on his late 20’s caught my attention. He was the mastermind behind this “pushcart classroom” lurking around the slums of Cavite, Philippines sharing the gifts of knowledge to the most unfortunate children around the city. At first glance, I presume that this is another ticket to fame, an old tactic to get notice, but as I glance over the article, I found myself guilty of my criticism, no wonder why this world is full of unbelievers and haters, it is because of people who does not want to believe and listen, they only want to speculate.
Getting back to this young man, I have learned that he himself was once a slum, working day and night at a very young age just to have enough food for his family, he was once bullied and beated and he has all the reasons to be mad and resentful to the world, but instead, he open himself to a new horizon of opportunities and hope. Breaking the boundaries of poverty and taking his self to a better ground by finding a way to provide for his educational means. He emerged to become an educator to the poor and unfortunate children on the streets, providing them quality education, materials and food.
I can hardly imagine what kind of setup he has, especially when he was jut starting, having not much on his own, how he was able to share in spite of insufficiency he already had.
I am impressed with the kind of man he became. His vision for the youth of the Philippines is something more than flash of cameras can tell. And maybe in his persona, I found the answer in my question about which true heroes are. That true heroes are those who work not to please the eyes of spectators but those who work to some how leave a legacy on someone else’s lives.
