Camping Safari Tanzania
Tented camps – Not to be confused with plain old camping, these are large tents usually with en-suite bathrooms. In most tented camps in Tanzania there is also a restaurant/bar located on the site. Lodges – Lodges are similar to tented camps, with the difference of chalet rooms as opposed to the large tents. Basic camping – This means staying in small tents in a designated area and dining from a camping stove. It is the latter of the 3 which I am going to explain for you in this article, and try to give you a good idea of how a typical day on a camping safari in Tanzania actually is. Camping as opposed to staying somewhere more ‘luxurious’ is not only much cheaper, and can allow you to spend money in your budget elsewhere on extra activities and more days on safari, but it is also a fantastic way to get closer to nature and experience an authentic and real African bush safari. • Your day will start with breakfast which will have been prepared for you by cook who travels with you during the duration of your safari. • You will then set off on your game drive, which will go on until around early afternoon, when you will stop at a scenic or picnic spot to enjoy your earlier prepared packed lunch. • The game drive will then carry on until early evening, where you will set off back to your camp, leaving you enough time before it gets dark. Upon arrival your guide will setup your tent whilst the cook will begin preparations for your evening meal, cooking on a portable gas hob with fresh vegetables and rice, pasta or noodles. • After you have finished your meal and are tired, you will be able to relax in your own tent which will be kitted out with pillows, sleeping mats and sleeping bags.
