Can Six Pack Abs Actually Prove You Are Healthy?

Having six pack abs does not mean you are healthy. Though outside appearance is a measure of person’s health but how healthy you are depends on many factors; the signs of good health are helpful in determining the state of health in a person.


Weight of a person can tell about the health but not in a reliable manner. The parameter used by doctors called body mass index (BMI) gives the measure of size against the weight. The unit of BMI is kilograms/meter square. The value of BMI in the rage of 18 to 25 is treated as healthy. The BMI of a person fit and muscular can be more than 25. For persons less than 16 years of age BMI is not used.

The one of the signs of good health is body shape. For that doctors look for waist measurements and if waist measurements are more than 35 inches then you have an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol. You can work on your waistline by leaving unhealthy eating and doing exercise.

Another sign of good health is the skin. The symptoms of unhealthy skin are odd shaped moles, tan and freckles. The risk of skin cancer increases due to tanning or sun exposure. It is recommended to use sunscreen and have opinion of dermatologist for moles and spots.

If blood is spotted in the spit after brushing the teeth then you have bleeding gums problem; bleeding gums indicate vitamin deficiencies and is a sign of early gingivitis. Studies show gum problems being linked to stroke, clogged arteries and diabetes. People with tooth decay and gum disease have high probability of dying with heart attacks and stroke.

If you feel your lips to be dry then it may be an indication of dehydration. Dehydration is the cause of headaches and weariness. Also it makes skin look dry and old as moisture is drained from the skin. Your fingernails if strong, smooth and colorless are to be treated as healthy, otherwise white spots, yellow color and ridges are indications for nail problems. Nail problems may be due to viral, bacterial or fungal infection.

You don’t have to rely on 6 pack abs to make statement about your health. There are many signs of good health that need to be checked.
