Can You Justify Six Sigma Training?

Green belt teachers have two basic tasks or goals that they pursue: helping six sigma techniques to be implemented and leading section A's small scale projects . Green belt training on the other hand is DMAIC centered. This enhanced problem solving and targeting skills focus on definition, measure, analysis, improvement and control of the project at hand. These carefully defined six sigma guidelines is the focus of the small projects work. This will free up the black belts to keep their focus throughout the entire organizations larger picture within six sigma.

In a word, six sigma green belts are support, and are responsible for doing the legwork, gathering the data and initiating experiments for the black belt project. Six sigma green belts spend a quarter of their time working their own projects or in support of the larger black belt projects, employing six sigma problem solving methods and statistical tools.

Every industry and environment will benefit tremendously from six sigma green belts and their knowledge. Specific successful training includes and goes beyond applying the DMAIC process; effective use of project planning and execution; choosing the right teams for each specific project; excellent communication of business strategy to all team mates; highly effective start to finish project plans and increasing project revenues as well as statistical tools choices for each project type.

It is important to understand that six sigma green belts are support players in six sigma projects, so if you're looking to lead then maybe becoming a black belt represents a better fit for your personality. The six sigma green belt training, in fact, does not train individuals to take over the reins of leadership on any projects. A two word definition of a six sigma green belt is "team player."

Green belt projects are great for including workers who desire to see and help implement quality improvement changes in and around their work and work spaces. However, six sigma green belt certification, may not be viewed as necessary by the company and does not see any good benefits from these skills. If it is decided that the benefits are useful, go for the training. If not, move to another level of training or simply find a new and different career to enjoy.
