Candle Making Molds - Choosing The Right One
When hot molten wax is poured into a mold, it attains the shape and inner texture of the mold. Most commonly used molds are aluminum molds. These are inexpensive and easily available. The candles attain a fine finish as well. They are best suited for making pillar candles. Since they lack flexibility, your scope for creative shapes is limited. Aluminum candles also require a releasing agent after the candle has formed. To make candles of different shapes, you can use rubber molds which come in polyurethane, silicone, and latex. Polyurethane is the cheapest of the lot but its stretching is limited and not very well suited if you want to make complicated shapes. This is the reason why you need a releasing agent to take the wax out. Silicon molds are the best. They are flexible and they don't require any releasing agents. This also makes them expensive. Latex molds can be made at home itself. This makes them more advantageous as you can get any desired shape. But making latex molds might not be easy for a beginner. Of all the molds, the cheapest are plastic ones.They are easily available but since they are brittle, they are not used by most candle makers. Apart from being cheap, they are also easy to clean. Cleaning molds of other materials may require heating to melt the wax. But plastic molds only require soap water to clean. The molds determine the outcome of your efforts.
