Candle Making Scents

Candles have been around for years together. They are not mere decorative pieces, but also serve the purpose of providing light. Candles are also used for many religious activities. And they are also associated with romance. One often hears stories of a romantic candle light dinner. As you can see, candles have many purposes and over the years, candles have evolved. From a plain white candle, you now can see candles in various colors and of different shapes and sizes. In addition, you now get attractive fragrant candles. Now, no more are scents restricted to body use, scents are used in creating wonderful aromatic candles.

You have the standard liquid candle scents, which are used extensively in the making of wax candles. Clear Candle technology is used here. Gel candles also use this unique technology. Majority of the scents that are used to make candles are safe to use. They are a hundred percent concentrated. The amount of scent that is to be used while making a candle, depends on the desired strength, as well as the fragrance used. Some fragrances are stronger than the others, so you would have to use it in proportion to the amount required. Generally, around 1 ounce/pound or 6% is suggested. Adjustments can be done. If higher amounts of scents are used, it may affect the burning properties of the candle. Moreover this may also lead to coking, excessive smoking etc. The best time to add the scent is around 2 minutes before pouring the candle. If you heat it for a longer time, you may lose some of the scent. It's important to make sure that the scent and the wax are sufficiently agitated before mixing them.

Some scents may come in a variety of colors. It's possible that these may cause a slight discoloration in a finished candle. You must be aware of this, and so should test this before use. Scents should be stored in a cool dark place, as direct sunlight may cause crystallization and maybe discoloration. It also reduces its shelf life. Generally six months is the normal shelf life of these scents.
