Career Opportunities In Canada For Skilled Immigrants

The Canadian government will only accept skilled workers who directly contribute to the Canadian economy and society both from their work and the taxes that they will pay.

To ensure that Canada only receives the immigrants that it requires, it sets up a points system that each applicant must pass. The points system is designed to assess the potential success of becoming established within Canada.

There are six category and a points total is assigned to each. The total number of points is 100 and the current pass rate is 67 – although this may change from time to time.

The current categories are:

• Age – 10 points.
• Education – 25 points.
• Work Experience – 24 points.
• Language Skills (English and French) – 21 points.
• Arranged Employment – 10 points.
• Adaptability – 10 points.

The methods and rules for determining what scores are awarded are complicated. A skilled Canadian immigration lawyer will help you calculate your scores and tell you if you currently meet the pass mark. They will also provide advice on what you might do to improve your application to live and work in Canada.

There are other major requirements to qualify as a Skilled Worker for Canadian immigration purposes and they are very difficult to meet. In addition to meeting the pass mark of 67 points the applicant must also:

• Have an Arranged Employment Offer (AEO) in Canada in what is considered a skilled occupation. The offering company must be willing to have the offer validated by the Canadian Human Resources Department. As you can expect, this is an onerous task that is beyond some companies.

• Have worked for at least one year, in the last ten years, in what is considered an in-demand occupation. This list of in-demand occupations changes on a regular basis. The current list is dated 30th June 2010.

The Skilled Worker immigration requirements are complex and open to regular change. A skilled Canadian immigration lawyer or Toronto immigration lawyer, if you seeking to work in this major city, will be able to assist you in your application. They will understand the current regulations and have experience in applying for these visas. They will understand how to write your proposal, presenting you in the best possible way so that you have the maximum amount of success. So call your Canadian immigration lawyer.
