Cash In With Your Own Affiliate Program

Affiliate programs enable a business to generate a lot of traffic and therefore boost sales through promotion by third party sales or sites. They are also a cost effective way to advertise your products and services as you pay only for the efforts that actually turn into sales.

Setting up your own affiliate program can be easy or it can be downright overwhelming. Much depends on the number of affiliates you want to recruit, how you will compensate your affiliates, and what type of product you will be offering.

As for the day to day operation and maintenance of your affiliate program, there are two options for you to utilize. You can outsource the entire system or you could choose to run your program on your own web server. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Purchasing your own affiliate software package works well when you need to manage a small number of highly motivated affiliates. Outsourcing your affiliate program is the way to go when you expect to recruit large numbers of affiliates who cannot be supervised or managed

easily. Also, once your sales and marketing technique becomes successful, you will have many payments to process, refunds to calculate, and the very important task of tracking clicks so your affiliates can monitor their own performance. While many affiliate software programs

can handle all these tasks, it would be wise to start out with a low cost package at first and migrate your affiliate program to an outsourced plan as your business grows.

Types of Affiliates Programs:

There are numerous types of affiliate programs out there to choose from. There's the pay per sale where an affiliate is paid only if a sale is generated from the affiliate's link. It's the least attractive to people, unless the product is in high demand and a sale produces sufficient profit to be shared by both you and your affiliate.

Another type is the pay per lead, where you pay only for visitors to your site. With this type of program, the affiliate is paid only if a visitor is generated from the affiliate's link. It's attractive to affiliates although costly to web site owners due to the possibility of too many curiosity driven visitors who have no intention of making a purchase. Success with this method is dependent upon the strength of your sales page and your site's ability to close a deal or make a sale. Well written and easy to navigate sites are the key here.

Options to Consider:

When setting up an affiliate program, something to consider is whether or not you'll approve affiliates manually or automatically. Manual approval gives you total control over the type and quality of affiliate you might be looking for. But it can be a time consuming process

that prevents you from concentrating on other facets of your business. Letting your software or outsourcing firm automatically approve affiliates will free up much of your valuable time; however, you may have to deal with affiliates that are less than responsible in terms of adhering to your terms of service

If you are dealing with pay per clicks, you may have to control the affiliates as the quality of visitors will be a huge factor when it comes to the generation of sales. If this is important to you, then stick with manual administration. By manually reviewing, you'll also be able to judge the website or individual affiliates to see if it's in the best interest of your company.

If you decide to use your own affiliate system, you will have to experiment with different management styles as you go along. There is nothing like duplicating your sales process to maximize profits and recruiting a large base of trusted affiliates will reward your efforts over and over again.
