Cassidy Mixtapes-the Early Years
Cassidy grew up in the Philadelphia area, where hip hop music was a popular pastime for many young people. Although he did not plan on ever becoming a rapper as a career, Cassidy began rapping with his cousins just for fun. He quickly rose to local fame as the best rapper in his neighborhood. While rapping around Philadelphia, Cassidy met local rappers Skbar and Shizz Lansky, who soon asked him to join their group and start making Cassidy mixtapes. He won a local rap contest sponsored by a radio station and quickly became the new rapper to watch. All other artists in the area knew that they would be judged against his abilities. After winning the radio contest and circulating more Cassidy mixtapes, the rapper was finally signed to a major record deal. He released his debut, Split Personality, in 2004. The album, which included the single “Hotel” with R. Kelly, reached gold sales in the first month that it was on the market. Although he was not always interested in becoming a rapper, Cassidy mixtapes made it clear that it was his destiny. After becoming a local celebrity, it was only a matter of time before Cassidy took on the worldwide stage. His debut album and single were both successes as soon as they became available, setting the tone for the next stage in his impressive career.
