Cause Of Dark Circles

Some say it is lack of sleep. Others say it is stress. Other thinks it is dehydration. Other thinks you simply get them for no reason at all. Dark circles seem to be a mysterious phenomenon for some.

There is no ultimate cause for dark circles around the eye. Almost every third person in the world has them. There are however, different causes of dark circles that may explain how you have them. Here are some causes of dark circles:

1. Genes. Heredity plays an important factor in the dark circles under the eye area. If your parents have them and they say they got them from their parents, chances are you got those dark circles from them too.
2. Bone structure. Some people have very evident cheek bones that the under eye area actually descend. This gives the illusion that your under eye area has dark circles.
3. Lack of sleep. On the contrary, lack of sleep does not cause dark circles. Lack of sleep, however, makes the rest of your skin pale and therefore makes your dark circles more obvious and evident.
4. Harmful sunrays. Exposure to the harmful rays of the sun exacerbates dark circles because of the increase in melanin levels.
5. Impending serious illness. In less common cases, dark circles may be a symptom of some serious disease like kidney failure. If you think that you got dark circles for no apparent reason at all, you may want to visit your doctor and ask him or her to check on you.
