Celebrate Fall In Newberry, South Carolina
The Newberry County Agricultural Expo is scheduled for September 23-25. This local county fair showcases Newberry’s livestock and agricultural products. The Expo features livestock shows including beef and dairy cattle shows, a multi-breed horse show, and barrel racing. There will be competitive exhibits of agricultural products including canned goods and baked goods. Attendees may also enjoy the exhibit of antique farm equipment, the multi-media art contest, and the children’s petting zoo. The Newberry County Agricultural Expo will be held at the Newberry County Fairgrounds, located at 2301 Adelaide Street. Oktoberfest will be held in downtown Newberry on Saturday, October 1 from 10am-5pm. This free, traditional German festival is a fun event for the entire family. It features live entertainment, classic cars, craft vendors, a raffle, children’s activities, and lots of German food. Come out and enjoy the polka music and some bratwurst. In conjunction with Oktoberfest, a touring children’s theater group will present The Bremen Town Musicians at the historic Ritz Theater. The production is a retelling of an old German folktale. Shows are scheduled for 11am, 1:30pm, and 3pm. The performances are free. While in Newberry, visitors may also want to catch a show at the historic Newberry Opera House. A variety of well known performers are scheduled to appear throughout the fall. The start of fall means college football for lots of sports fans. Newberry College has several home games on its schedule. The Wolves play their next home game on October 1 against Mars Hill. Homecoming will be October 22 against Tusculum College. The Homecoming Parade begins at 2pm and game time will be at 4pm. On October 29 Newberry plays UNC Pembroke at home, and on November 12 the home game is against Brevard College. Single game tickets are $15. Wine aficionados may enjoy the Newberry Wine Festival on October 15. It will be held from 4-8pm at Enoree River Vineyards. Attendees may enjoy live musical entertainment and try some of Enoree’s fine wines. In addition to selling their wines, the gift shop offers a variety of other South Carolina products. The winery is located at 1650 Dusty Road, four miles east of Newberry. Newberry is an easy 40 minute drive north of Columbia on I-26.
