Cell Phone Signal Boosters: How To Install Them?

Many times you might have had irritating experience of an inability to talk on your cell phone due to poor signals in the so-called "cellular dead zones". So what are the different options for you in such situations?

A cell phone repeater, or a wireless cellular signal booster, a kind of bi-directional amplifier, is a mechanical device that is used for enhancing the cell phone reception to the local area by the usage of a reception antenna. It also uses a signal amplifier and an internal rebroadcast antenna. These antennas are similar to the cellular broadcast towers used by the network providers, but are much smaller. These antennas are usually intended for use in one building.

Today’s mobile phone repeater amplifiers rebroadcast cellular signals inside the building. This system basically uses an external, directional antenna to collect the best cellular signal that is then transmitted to an amplifier unit which amplifies the signal, and retransmits it locally. This results in significantly improved signal strength. Modern cell phone boosters also allow different mobiles to use the same repeater at the same time, making them suitable for commercial as well as home use.

These mobile phone boosters work in the same fashion as the cellular broadcast towers that are used by the network service providers to air signals. However, these are much smaller in size and are meant to be used in a limited area, such as several rooms together. The signal boosters, depending on their make, can capture and extend the cell phone's coverage up to large areas. Appropriate models can also be used to extend the cellular coverage inside a vehicle. Mobile phone boosters also work with most of the major mobile phone carriers. They enhance the mobile’s battery life and reduce the level of harmful radiation from the handset.

Cell Phone Signal Boosters Work As A Magic

Installing a signal booster will solve the problem for you. These are also known as cellular repeaters or amplifiers, cell phone signal boosters. They reduce the number of dropped calls and help you extend your cell phone range. This is especially helpful for long distance calls.

How to install these boosters?

The installation process varies from one type of booster to another. The typical steps involved may consist of the following:

1. Identify the most appropriate location that has the strongest signals, to install the external antenna. You can simple use your cell phone’s signal indicator to do this.

2. Use the mounting brackets to vertically install the antenna. Make sure you install it at least three feet away from metallic objects like air conditioning units and pipes.

3. Take the coaxial cable that comes as part of the assembly. Attach it to the base of the signal antenna of the booster.

4. Use an optional window entry kit to run the other end of the coaxial cable through your window and attach it to the base unit which is kept inside the room.

5. Make sure that the antenna of base unit's is at a 90 degree angle to the base unit.

6. Connect the power supply to the base unit; to do this, you might have to adjust the distance between the two antennas to eliminate any error indications.
