Cellulite Treatments - Do They Work?

A curse to many women, cellulite is formed close to the skin surface and produces a number of wrinkled fat cells intermixed with the connective tissue and produces that strange ‘orange peel’ effect most of us have witnessed. Although additional fat is normal in women, this is not just a condition that is exclusive to overweight women and the cottage cheese look can affect slim women as well.

Just below the surface of the skin in the thighs and buttocks region, areas of fat collect and force themselves against the tissue creating a puckered look to the surface of the skin. In reality, nobody knows the real reason why some people accumulate cellulite and not others, but there are some factors that health experts are considering such as the structure of the fat cells or toxins that enter the body.

What is certain though is that the older you become the greater the likelihood of cellulites forming as the elastin and collagen, that also stops wrinkles, becomes less effective. It is classified as a hormonal imbalance experienced by women and seldom appears on males as normally fat stored in the thighs and buttock is the same as fat stored all over the body so no difference is observed.

Often the cellulite goes unnoticed and it is only when a person’s muscles are compressed or the skin is pinched that it can be seen and felt but women should not feel badly about having cellulite as most women suffer with it to a greater or lesser degree. After a great deal of research, certain conditions do help with the formation and retention of cellulites like the age of the person, their gender, how thick their skin is and the amount of extra fat they carry.

As medical science cannot prove conclusively what causes cellulite, it makes it difficult creating a cure for it even though a number have been tried including cellulite burning creams. Some specialty clinics that specialize on cellulite removal simply apply deep massaging to puff up the skin and temporarily reduce the cellulite's appearance.

Other treatments involve liposuction (to remove fats) and mesotheraphy (injection of drugs into cellulite) which is expensive and out of reach of the majority of women. However, these are only temporary measures so do not provide permanent relief and liposuction is really only efficient for deeper based fats and not those close to the surface as with cellulites.

Unfortunately at the moment the isn’t a magic formula for cellulite removal and it may be some time before it is found although some companies claim that cellulite removal cream is effective but this seems to be better at hiding the effects. Many people believe that the only realistic way to reduce the amount of cellulite a person has is to follow a controlled diet plan and exercise regularly which will gradually burn off much of the body fat including that found in the tissues of the thighs and buttocks.

Water too is useful as it has the effect of flushing out toxins that accumulate and are though to be partly responsible in addition to smokers to quit or reduce their smoking which is an effective way for toxins to enter the body.
