Six sigma green belt certification is an attempt to a candidate's expertise using six sigma tools and knowledge of the process involved. Examiners are looking for cognition in addition to hands on understanding.

There are several cognitive skills that the individual must demonstrate. Six sigma green belt certification also examines every aspect of customer requirements, wants and desires from the data collected as well as how knowledgeable the candidate is about the overall six sigma process, how well the value and organizational goals, quality function and deployment and all failures are understood and addressed.

Project management basics like problem solving, project scope and project metrics or measuring are also part of the six sigma green belt certification of the individuals ability. They must also demonstrate impressive knowledge of the project documentation, project risk analysis, project closure and tools. The examination process will also include team communication, dynamics and performance, in addition to an in depth data analysis.

Bear in mind that six sigma green belt certification is not necessarily transferable from company to company. In fact there is very little standardization in the six sigma process because the culture is always tailored to the organization. So your certification may become useless if you switch companies, in the same town or across state lines. You may find yourself having to start all over again.
