Cessna 170

The Cessna 170 is a four-seater aviation aircraft produced by Cessna Aircraft in the 50s, but what is good about this aircraft is that there are about a half of those planes produced that are still flying these days. This can speak well of the durability of these planes. This plane was built as a four-seater version of the Cessna 140 two-seater and fitted with a more powerful piston engine and also additional fuel tanks. The engine is a 145 horsepower Continental C-300. Despite the fact that this plane was built in the 50s and that is more than fifty years ago, the fact that there are still several Cessna 170 flying these days, make it very impressive.

The Cessna 170 is a single-engine monoplane with engine Continental C-145 or C-300 and has a cruising speed of 110 miles per hour and maximum speed of 140 miles per hour. It has a maximum range of 700 miles at this cruising speed and full capacity is 37 gallons. The propeller of Cessna 170 is a 6 foot fixed-pitch dual-blade propeller with undercarriage of the tail dragger type. The maximum load capacity is 2200 lbs with maximum 4 passenger capacity.

The initial versions of Cessna 170 had fabric covered wings but it was later converted into an all metal or aluminum aircraft. The all metal version was a new concept in light planes during that time. Later it became the standard in the light plane category. These aircraft types may not excel in any particular category but they are just doing many things well that makes it popular with many flying enthusiasts all over. The Cessna 170 has a special appeal to many flyers and is well liked by people who had an experience flying these planes. The Cessna 170 are not the speed planes but they fly decently fast too, they are not load haulers but have maximum load capacity of 2200 pounds. This plane also exhibits good short field performance.

Cessna aircraft parts are still widely available these days and this also makes the Cessna 170 appealing to used light aircraft buyers. What is adding to its appeal is the capability for engine conversions to upgrade these planes to the more modern Lycoming engines of the newer Cessna versions. Although the Continental engines are still the good performing engines but many flyers have good regards to the newer Lycoming engines. Thus the upgraded versions command a premium price on the used plane market. If you are one looking for a used light airplane for use, the Cessna 170 can be the ideal used plane for you. Finding this plane on the used market is not hard because there are many available on the used plane market and search is just needed.
