Check Your High Cholesterol

Cholesterol is the thick wax-like fats present in the blood cells of a human being. They play an important role in proper functioning of a body. Any fluctuation in its level can affect the circulation system of the body. High cholesterol builds up plaque in the walls of blood vessels and start blocking the flow of blood resulting into the cardiac problems. Cholesterol is made by two ways in the body. One is the natural fabrication that is present since birth of a person; another way is through the intake of food like animal meat, which contains an amount of cholesterol.

There are no prescribed symptoms of high cholesterol level in the body. The only way to detect it is through blood tests. It is very difficult to find
out the increasing cholesterol level at the early stages, but there can be minor symptoms for the recurrent high cholesterol like yellowish patches in the region of lids and whitish edge around cornea. The cholesterol symptoms cannot be easily detected unless they result in some problem.

These problems ay include blood clotting, hypertension, heart disease and even heart stroke in severe cases.

The life style and eating habits of an individual has a grave effect on the cholesterol level of the individual. For instance if the person is a chain smoker, takes a lot of junk and fast food, eats cheese and drinks whole milk regularly, an over-weight and does not exercise regularly poses higher risks to increase the cholesterol level. Various animal meats that have an excess amount of fats and cholesterol, intake of such food should be minimized. The oily food should also be minimized to attain a healthy living. People above the age of 35 years must keep a check on their cholesterol levels by avoiding the bad lifestyle as stated above and getting regular cholesterol check up.

Other cholesterol symptoms can also indicate the risk of high cholesterol level in a human body. The factors are

Family history of the person- If the immediate blood relations as mother, father or siblings were suffering from the cardiovascular diseases, the person is likely to be affected more easily.

Personal history- The eating habits, exercises, precautions and lifestyle of an individual gravely affect the cholesterol level in his/her body.

Weight, the level of stress, smoking of drinking habits and blood pressure also play an important role.

There is a common habit among masses that they do not take action until the problem has erupted out into a ghastly disease. As there are no symptoms for the high cholesterol level in the body, it erupts out with great cardiovascular problems. Then only some people realize that there cholesterol has been increasing since a long time. However now they pose higher risks of heart problems. This is why it is said that prevention is better than cure. The golden rule for the healthy life is to take light and nutritious diet, exercise regularly, and get a medical check up done after regular intervals. Quitting smoking and alcohol can also work wonders on the lifestyle.
