Cheese Rolling Festival Held On The Cooper’s Hill
Just three miles away a pub named as Cheese Rollers is located from Copper’s hill; other pubs are the Victoria and The Cross Hands. Competitors who come to participate in this race gather in these pubs both before the event and after. You can see they all are excited, discussing the tactics and techniques used in this race. The cheese used during this festival is Double Gloucester; it is a hard cheese which is in a cylindrical shape. The cheese used for this event is made by the expert cheese maker known as Diana Smart who supply from the year 1988. During the Second World War the use of cheese was banned in the event. Between the years 1941 to 1954, the use of wooden block was introduced in this event instead of cheese. Due to the rough surface and steepness of hill several injuries are held ranging from bone facture, sprained ankle and more. During the festival of cheese rolling, the medical aid facility is provided at the bottom of hill by the volunteers. When you visit this place, there are several ambulances are available at the spot to take the injured person to hospital. Around 20 young men’s lined at the start line of the race, they chase the double cheese from the cliff and tumble down to the bottom. When these competitors reach to the bottom of the copper’s hill, the volunteers take them to the nearest hospital. Even tough cheese rolling festival is risky and dangerous, the number of competitors increase more and more every year. In this festival many events are held during afternoon including seven pound wheel of ripe, large mellow and then Gloucestershire cheese rolled down from the top of the hill.
