Chloramine Filter And Why Your Water Supply Needs One
Are you as alarmed as I was when you hear that some cities in this great country give false reports to the government for the quality of the water that they supply to their citizens? Wouldn’t it make you wonder if you live in one of those cities?
My city wasn’t talked about in the article, but I come from a rather small metropolitan area, so I highly doubt mine would’ve been one reported on. What about you, do you know about your city and what is in the water you receive?
The article was referring to the chloramine levels in water and why we all need to install a chloramine filter in our houses.
Chloramine has been used in place of chlorine at many water plants to disinfect our water and to remove dangerous contaminates. It is a combination of ammonia and chlorine.
The research I’ve done shows this chemical eats away at the lead in the pipes the water travels through on its way to our homes. This causes the lead to get into our water supply, so even if the water tested lead free when it left the facility, by the time it reaches your home it is no longer lead free.
Asking your water company to install a chloramine filter at their facility won’t do you a whole lot of good. And it certainly wouldn’t be beneficial to expect the city to dig up all the lead filled pipes and install other ones. The cost of that would make your taxes go through the roof.
The best thing for you to do is to equip your own home with a water purification unit that includes a chloramine filter at the point of use, so you will be assured of clean pure water for all your needs. Especially if you live in an old house where the water may travel through lead soldered pipes within your own walls.
Lead is very damaging to our health. It is linked to nervous systems disorders, miscarriages, brain damage, reproductive problems, kidney disease, and learning disabilities in children.
We’ve all been warned about lead in paint, and much has been done to tell us not to allow our children to come into contact with lead paint, but what about the supposedly pure water they drink from your home faucet.
Even if there are no young children in your home, what about the other health issues. I’m in my fifties and I’m hoping my kidneys stay healthy for another forty to fifty years, so I’ve installed a chloramine filter that also gets rid of the lead in my home to protect my health.
If you think you’re protected because you use a reverse osmosis system or water distillation unit in your home - think again. Those systems won’t do the job of removing the dangerous byproducts of the chloramine unless they also have a granular carbon activated filter built in.
