Choosing Free Range Feeders

No matter the type of bird that you would like to raise, there are free-range feeders that will make your work much easier for you. Game birds and chickens deserve to get their food whenever they want it, but there are other animals that wander free and will want the food that you set out for your birds. You will see in no time at all that a range feeder is important if you want to keep your birds well fed and healthy.

When you start shopping for range feeders, there are several things you will need to keep in mind. The first thing you want to consider is how often you want to refill the feeder and how many birds the feeder will supply. This will tell you how large or how many you will need. If you have a large amount of land for your birds, then you might consider getting more than one just so you can place them throughout your property.

It is important that you check the range feeders that you choose for their ability to be weatherproof. Just a little bit of rain can ruin the feed that you set out for your birds, but you shouldn’t need to worry about that. There are several different feeders available that will offer a waterproof shield for the feed. Just remember the size of the birds that you are raising before you buy. There are specialized feeders for some birds because the weather shield might prevent feeding. Smaller birds will require a smaller feeder, and larger birds might not be able to use the smaller feeders because they wont’ be able to access the food.

Check into the different features that keep out other animals, too. Most feeders are tough and resilient, which will keep larger animals from destroying them in their haste to get to the food. Most are made from durable plastic, but you may find some made of steel, too. For the smaller animals, there are often teeth inside the feeder entry. This discourages rodents from crawling inside the feeder to get to the food.

As you can see, there are a lot of things you will need to consider when choosing a range feeder, but your supplier can help you make your decision if you need help. Your birds deserve the best feeders possible so that they can get the food they need to grow strong and remain healthy.
