Choosing The Best Rug For Your Dining Room

It's fairly common for people to buy a rug for their dining rooms. Sometimes these are on the floor in the middle of the room and at times these are underneath the dining room furniture like underneath the table and chairs. These rugs can add color and texture to this room of the house setting it apart from other rooms that might already look much like it. When you have this type of rug, there are things that you need to know about them to make sure that you are picking the right rug and caring for it like it needs to be cared for.

The main issue with picking a dining room rug has nothing to do with the type of rug or how it looks. What you are really looking to do is to pick a rug that fits the room correctly. If you get a rug that is going to be under the table, you want a rug that is about a foot longer on each side than your table. Look at the dimensions of your table to get an idea about how big the rug needs to be.

If the rug is going to sit elsewhere in the room, you want it to be centered. This shouldn't be too close to any of the walls or too close to the rest of the furniture in the room.

One thing about these types of rugs is that they tend to have much more wear on them than other rugs because of the weight of furniture on them. There are things that you can do to extend the life of these rugs.

First of all, put a rug pad underneath the rug. The weight of the table and chairs won't be pinching the rug so much when you have thick padding underneath.

Be sure that you get some protective discs for where the table meets the rug. Many tables can leave impressions in the rug that will never come out. The felt discs limits this.

Every once in awhile be sure that you get this rug cleaned properly. It might have food particles on it that can ruin the rug over time if not dealt with.
