Choosing A Compact Digital Camera

From a basic point-and-shoot to having complete creative control, choosing a compact digital camera will simply depend on what you want out of it and how you intend to use the camera.

Generally, compact digital cameras fall under 3 simple categories:

1) Basic 'point and shoot' digital camera
Basic 'point and shoot' cameras are lightweight and slim, and perfect for weekends, travel, parties or family gatherings. These cameras, like the Canon IXUS 80 IS or the Canon PowerShot A2000, are extremely easy to use, fun, versatile and offer superb image quality.

2) Midrange 'point and shoot plus' digital camera
If you want a compact digital camera that offers professional-looking results with little more shooting flexibility and creative control, these models are ideal. The Canon IXUS 110IS, for example, comes with a 28mm wide-angle lens and is for perfect landscape or group shots. For a powerful 10x optical zoom, the PowerShot SX110 IS is a good option as well.

3) Powerful higher-end compact digital camera
While not as powerful as a D-SLR (Digital Single Reflex Lens) camera, higher-end compact digital cameras, like the PowerShot G10 or IXUS 980IS, still provide impressive, superior quality and professional-looking images. They are easy to use, while offering full manual control and more creative options for the serious amateur photographer.
