Choosing The Right Iron For Your Next Golf Shot
Many golfers think they can just go out on the golf course and play a great game of golf. But, this is just not true. To be a great, or even a good, golfer you must spend many hours at the driving range hitting ball after ball after ball. Golf is a game of consistency. Lets say you are 200 yards out from the pin. You have to know which of your fairway irons will get you on the green. The only way you know that for sure is if you have practiced with all the irons in your golf bag and you know which one you can consistently hit 200 yards. The same holds true when you are 65 yards away from the cup and you ask yourself "Do I use my 9 iron or would my pitching wedge work better?". If you have done your homework at the driving range then the answer is clear. Many times on the golf course, or in the clubhouse, you will here a golfer say "I just can't hit a long iron shot" or maybe "my short irons are killing my golf game". Well the reason for this is simple, these golfers do not spend enough time practicing with these irons. The golf clubs in your bag called your long iron are generally considered to be your 3 iron through your 6 iron, and your short irons are the 7 iron through your sand wedge. These golf clubs are not easy to hit accurately, but with practice you will improve your golf game. Now the next question you might have is "will an expensive set of irons, or maybe even a custom set of irons, make me play better?". If you have not put in the practice time with your irons, cheap or expensive, you will not hit them well. So, if you are just beginning to learn the game of golf, or you just play golf on the weekends to relax, I would not recommend you go out and spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on an expensive set of custom made golfing irons. Instead, purchase a good quality "middle of the road" set of irons and then go straight to the driving range and practice, practice, practice!
