Choosing The Right Hamper

Hampers were once products that we usually associated with Christmas time. Today, they seem to be seen mainly as a gift item - something to be given away at any time of the year, although still at their most popular at Christmas.

If you're completely unfamiliar with these products, then let's start with a brief overview. Hampers are basically boxes containing various small gifts - when you have the entire hamper, you thus have quite a large gift on your hands.

Presentation is often important with these presents, so the box may actually take the form of something considerably more attractive, such as a nice presentation case of some kind. The contents would traditionally be centred around food and drinks.

When we say food and drinks, we're not just talking about cheap products that you eat every day. They're much more likely to contain luxury items. When you give one of these hampers to a loved one, you are effectively handing them a box or case full of treats.

That explains the background in terms of what a hamper is, but you may gather from that explanation that they come in many different forms. How should you go about choosing the right type of hamper if you are intending on giving it to someone else as a gift?

There are likely to be a number of considerations here which are important. Once will almost certainly be the price that you are willing to pay. Since there is such an array of items available, products do vary considerably in price terms.

Another major point that you'll need to take into account is what the intended recipient would most appreciate. There's little point, for example, in buying a hamper full of meat products if your loved one is a vegetarian.

So it's clear that you need to do a little bit of thinking. You can then start to narrow down your options. Popular hampers tend to centre on a few favourite luxury items, such as champagne, chocolates and wine.

If you are buying a Christmas hamper then it might also be nice to pick out something that includes some real festive touches. Mince pies, Christmas puddings, cheeses and bottles of port are all to be found in luxury hampers.

Think about the person that you are buying for and let that guide your choice.
