"chop Shop" Starring Alejandro Polanco
When the movie opens, Ale is excited because he has found them a place to live: an abandoned office in the second floor of the building where the body shop is located. It consists of a bed, a microwave, and a small refrigerator. Having access to the bathroom downstairs which comes complete with a shower gives them a fully equipped and functional "house". When his sister inquires as to just how he can get her a new job, he quips, "I got us a house, didn't I?" Ale has a friend, Carlos, whose uncle has agreed to sell him a used food vending truck for $4500. It needs a new axle and plenty of body work, but Ale's experience in the body shop gives him the know-how to be able to do all this himself. Over the course of the next few weeks Ale saves every dime he makes, stashing it in a tin can which he buries under the floor of an old warehouse. In the meantime, Ale and his friend decide one evening to go to the truck stop to spy on the prostitutes. What they see there devastates Ale and almost destroys the boys' friendship. It's a situation that Ale is never really able to get over. Once Ale has saved up enough money to pay for the truck, he has it delivered to the body shop. He is overjoyed and is showing it to everyone and telling them all his plans. He is ultimately devastated when he finds out there is nearly $10,000 worth of work to do on the inside to get it ready to pass a health inspection. This is another blow to his and Carlos' friendship. This is a wonderful movie that deals with sibling rivalry, friendship, and life itself and delves into the ups and downs of each of these situations. This movie is not rated, but viewer discretion is advised as there is quite a bit of language and sexual themes in it.
