Christmas Cards Are Wonderful Expressions

Christmas cards come in all shapes, sizes, colours and textures just as many families do. Cards arrive at your door usually after Thanksgiving and before the first of the year, wishing warm wishing for Christmas. Some Christmas cards are hand made, many with pictures of children or entire families, and some may be of the family pet or beautiful Christmas tree. All tell some part of a family's life.

I love to receive Christmas cards of my friends and families children and I actually use them to decorate my refrigerator and fireplace mantel. It is always very interesting to see the neat ideas everyone comes up with for different Christmas cards each year.

There are so many different options. Some of my friends seem to be more creative than others. Some have great photography skills. Of course, I always have some friends and family who use professional pictures that look to be straight from a magazine. Having two little boys who love arts and crafts, I usually try to involve them in making our annual Christmas Cards. I have used their hand prints glued together to make antlers with each of their pictures. Along with paper snow flakes that were hand made used as the backdrop of their picture.

Some of my friends seem to be skilled photographers grabbing action shots of their children decorating their tree, playing with the family pet or playing in the snow. Whether you print your Christmas cards yourself, hand make them or have them professionally done there are so many options. I love to add pretty ribbon, by punching a couple holes at the top of my Christmas cards and tying a pretty bow through the card, for an extra touch.

If you want to add some of your special touches to a Christmas card, but would rather not start from scratch there are many places that sell card stock. This way you could add a few extra touches of your own. I have done this before, and added a little glitter to the edges of the card, with a glitter pen, and then attached a picture that I took of the boys and printed at home.

Construction paper is always a great tool for making colourful Christmas cards from scratch. My kids and I have created beautiful Christmas ornaments with glitter and glue, as well as cute snowmen, stars, reindeer made from traces of their hands, Christmas trees and of course Santa Claus. Making homemade Christmas cards is a special time in our house. The kids love to make their own creations

With the advances in technology, there are now companies on the internet that actually help you add music to your Christmas cards. I think this would be a great idea to add a little something special to a warm greeting. You may even record your own family Christmas carol as an extra special treat.

I look forward each year to the well wishes of Christmas cards in the mailbox. It is always exciting to see smiling faces of friends and family. It is neat to see the different ideas and creative sides to everyone.
