Cisco Delivers Breakthrough Business Advantages

Cisco recently announced new additions to its Data Center 3.0 product line with the introduction of its second generation Cisco Unified Computing System. This next generation system is ideally positioned to address the business challenges of today and capitalize on the opportunities that tomorrow will bring by reducing infrastructure cost and complexity and improving support for data center virtualization. The latest offering to the Unified Computing System portfolio offers up to 50% more processor cores, 300% greater application performance and four times the standard memory footprint, making it the ideal system for enterprise workloads. By bringing network, compute, storage, and virtualization platforms closer together, Cisco Data Center 3.0 aligns IT resources to business needs and delivers significant benefits.

Cisco also announced the new Nexus 2248 and 2232 fabric extenders, providing a cost effective migration path from Gigabit Ethernet to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, reducing TCO, simplifying management, and reducing cable costs. The Cisco Nexus family of data center switches is designed to meet the stringent requirements of the next-generation data center. Not simply bigger or faster, these switches offer the following advantages:

•Infrastructure that can be scaled cost-effectively and that helps increase energy, budget, and resource efficiency

•Transport that can navigate the transition to 10 Gigabit Ethernet and unified fabric and can handle architectural changes such as virtualization, Web 2.0 applications, and cloud computing

•Operational continuity to meet the need for an environment where system availability is assumed and maintenance windows are rare, if not totally extinct.

When paired together, the Cisco Data Center architecture can achieve:

• 4 times the compute capacity in the same footprint
• 4 times the bandwidth capacity in the same footprint
• 92% fewer management points
• 30% greater application throughput
• 76% greater database consolidation
• 10% reduced power consumption

This translates into reduced infrastructure complexity, reduced costs, and improved business agility.
