Clarify Your Objectives To Build A Solid Foundation For Your Articles And Website Copy

Whether you’re writing your entire website or a handful of articles, it’s important to first clarify your objectives. This step helps you create compelling content that’s beneficial to your readers and meets your marketing goals. Remember, to build traffic to your website, content is king. Developing high-quality content is key for traffic-building strategies such as publishing articles, posting blog entries, and adding fresh content to your website to entice visitors (and search engines) to return again and again.

Clarifying the project’s objectives is a foundational step for any writing project, big or small

Picture this: You just sat down to write a new website page, draft an article, or rework your entire website. You’ve set aside time and have selected your topic. But wait! Have you determined the project’s objectives?

Take time for this foundational step for every writing project, big or small. Clarifying objectives for a project helps you:

step back, gain perspective, and consider multiple facets: the purpose, the topic, your audience types and their needs, your top benefit message, a compelling call to action, etc.;
get focused, which saves you time and is a gift for your readers; and
evaluate your final content to ensure it meets the mark.

How do you clarify objectives? Here’s an example …

You need to create an enticing give-away to encourage website visitors to click on your opt-in box. This hardworking content must present mouth-watering benefits that appeal to a majority of your visitors, because the job of your opt-in box is to convert visitors to prospects. By regularly contacting your prospects via your ezine or other announcements, you may be able to convert your prospects to clients.

You decide to write and record five brief audio tips. First, though, you take a moment to think about the project’s objectives and write them down:

Purpose—Convert visitors to prospects, which will give me a greater chance of converting them to clients.
Benefits for listeners—I’ll provide useful tips so listeners can benefit immediately and will want to learn more. The topic will showcase my expertise and passion. I’ll briefly mention client success stories to illustrate points, show my track record of success, and help listeners relate to client situations.
Calls to action—At the end of each tip, I’ll encourage the listener to sign up for my teleclass.
Logistics—Each audio tip will be 3-5 minutes long. My VA will set up web pages and autoresponder email messages, with 1 tip sent each day for 5 days.

Always take a few minutes to clarify your objectives to build a solid foundation for your website and article projects. This is a vital first step to develop compelling content that’s beneficial to your readers and meets your marketing goals.
