Classic Boys Toys - The Remote Control Boat

One of the more traditional boys toys that instantly bring back fond childhood memories (if you were lucky enough to have one!), the remote control boat is appealing and enjoyable to boys and girls of all ages, from 8 to 80. The remote control boat is an exciting way to enjoy water-based pursuits without having to leave dry land, and if you’re thinking of getting an unusual gift for someone these immensely popular and classic boys’ toys may be the perfect answer.

Before you splash out and buy a top of the range model for someone, it’s important to think about the type of water they are going to want to run it on. If you’re buying one of these boys’ toys for a young child or someone who isn’t able to regularly access large spaces of open water such as rivers, streams and lakes, you’ll definitely need to get them a smaller boat so that they can still enjoy running and racing the boat in the limited amount of water that they have. Those that have plenty of access to large spaces of water, though, are much easier to buy remote control boats for because you have so many options to choose from.

Another important factor that you need to consider before you purchase a boat for someone is the level of model boat that they’ll need. There are all sorts of remote control boats now available, from stable child-friendly boats that are easy to run and handle, to more advanced racing models that are much harder to control. Giving a remote control boat as a gift means that you want the recipient to have as much fun and enjoyment as possible when running it, so ensure that you get them the right level of boat by doing a bit of research first.

As well as the classic remote control sailing boat, today’s remote control boats are boosted by a range of different power sources. Some remote control boats run on rechargeable battery power so are easy to care for and use, but the battery power doesn’t always provide long racing and running times. Other types of remote control boats have gas or nitro-powered engines, and while they are more effective at reaching high speeds and lasting for longer periods of time their fuel costs can add up. Gas-powered remote control boats are also far from eco-friendly and due to their more complex structure should only be used by more advanced boat runners and racers.

One final factor to take into consideration when buying a remote control boat as a gift for someone is budget. Although you should already have a clear idea yourself of how much you are willing to spend on such a gift, you also need to think about any costs that the recipient is likely to face during the time they spend owning and running the boat. Classic, battery-powered remote control sailing boats are the simplest and easiest to care for as they don’t require extensive care or upkeep. Battery-powered remote control boats are also the cheapest to purchase with typical online prices ranging from £15 to £35. Gas-powered boats are at the very top end of the scale, some even cost in excess of £1000 to purchase, so you’d need pockets as deep as a lake to purchase one of these!
