Clean Bathroom Grout

Grout is usually a combination of concrete, fine sand and normal water and is put in place in the cracks between tiles. Doing this holds the tiles in place. The grout is then sealed to prevent water undermining the tiles and becoming moldy. In order to keep grout in good condition, you need to thoroughly clean it often. Otherwise you risk having to get your tiles re-grouted or resealed due to water damage. But what is the best way to clean bathroom grout easily and effectively?

To clean bathroom grout, an fantastic tool to have is a grout brush. A grout brush is a brush designed solely for cleaning grout. It is abrasive, but not to the point that it will do damage to the surrounding tiles. If you don't want to buy a grout brush, an old toothbrush should work almost as well. Once you have an implement to clean bathroom grout, consider what product you will use in conjunction with it:

Vinegar is among the most reliable grout cleaning product options you'll find. Mix identical portions of drinking water and white vinegar and pour the solution into a trigger-spray bottle. Apply the mixture onto dirty bathroom grout areas. Let it soak for about ten minutes and then use your grout brush, or old toothbrush, to scrub the area. After that, rinse the area off with drinking water to avoid the acidic vinegar damaging your bathroom tile.

An alternative to vinegar is lemon juice. Put some lemon juice, either fresh, or bottled, into a trigger spray bottle. Squirt it onto the grout as you would vinegar, leave to soak for up to five minutes and then, like with vinegar, scrub with your choice of brush. Finally, wash the area off with drinking water.

Apart from acidic products, which can sometimes damage tile enamel, you can clean bathroom grout with hydrogen peroxide. Put the hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle and apply to the grout. Leave it sit for about ten minutes, then simply wipe off with a damp cloth, and rinse with water. Hydrogen peroxide is stronger and a bit more dangerous the vinegar and lemon juice, but may reduce the amount of elbow grease you need to use.

These products should help you successfully clean even very dirty bathroom grout. A final tip, however, do not mix cleaning products, especially powerful products like hydrogen peroxide. Sometimes mixed products can react with each other and product toxic fumes, or they could mix into another substance that will in fact do permanent damage to your bathroom grout.
