Clear Window Cleaning Tips
Most people use window cleaners such as Windex or some other type of glass cleaner. These products work ok but there is a trick to them. The key to a beautiful window is no streaks. Most people don’t take into consideration the weather outside before they clean windows. A good rule for cleaning the windows is to clean them on a cloudy day, not necessarily a rainy day but a cloudy day. When you clean the windows with direct sunlight hitting them you tend to get streaks in the window because the heat from the sun dries the window cleaner causing streaks. If you want to clean your windows like the pros do, then take a bucket of cool water and add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to the water the ratio is 2 tablespoons for every gallon of water. Then begin cleaning by using horizontal strokes to clean the inside of the window and then vertical strokes to do the outside. Instead of using paper towels to clean the window use a newspaper. Try wearing gloves to avoid the nasty black newspaper ink. Another common mistake people make when cleaning their windows is that they only clean one side. They believe they are cleaning the house from the inside so they only do one side of the window because it is in the house. But if you want clear as day windows then you have to do the outside of the windows. The newer windows are easy because they fold down with the release of a button or slide tab. Simply lower the window and repeat the same steps. Also, try cleaning the top portion of the window as well. If you are a cleaning fanatic then once you start cleaning the window glass you may as well clean the entire window structure. A lot of dust and dirt gets into the windowsill. While you are cleaning the glass you can clean the windowsill and the surrounding panes. The bottom of the window is hard to clean so try vacuuming up the dirt and for good measure vacuum the frames and the sills. Make window cleaning a weekly part of your house cleaning routine. If you have mini blinds on the window try cleaning them once a week or every two weeks depending on how dirty they get. If you have curtains try changing the colors every week to give your windows a fresh look from week to week. Windows can be a pain but once you have them clean you are going to be glad that you did them.
