Wallpaper is the world’s best invention, right up there with glue and nails. Not only will the walls have a cute and distinct pattern, but the job will be done in a fraction of the time. There are many websites online that will give you some great ideas and options with dollhouse wallpaper. Floor Plan Design and Preparation

If you fail to plan you plan to fail. A plan will help you avoid pitfalls like spending too much or buying the wrong items. With miniature design a plan of action will consist of a floor plan and budget. A floor plan is a drawing, picture, or print of a dollhouse room that you would like to coordinate. There are many room designs both online and off. Take a note book and jot down things that you would like to add, modify, or change with your plan. Compare your notes to your current plan and change it if necessary. Once you have a good idea of what you would like you will need to budget accordingly. Remember, this is a hobby and constraining yourself to a budget allows control and happiness over your financial situation. If you find a piece of furniture that is over your budget apply your patience and save until you can purchase it.

Floor Trim for your Dollhouse

If you are a true crafter you are constantly tweaking your creations. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I discovered the importance of having trim around your floor. You can buy many types of dollhouse trim through stores but what I found to be the cheapest and easiest is purchasing a long thin flat piece of balsa wood. I painted them white, which went with all the walls in my dollhouse, and attached them to the floors throughout the house. I was most impressed to not see any more tiny cracks between the wall and the flooring due to the trim covering it up. Another great thing about the trim is that it covers the edges of the wallpaper and prevents fraying. It was a little addition that was fun to install and really added to the look of my dollhouse.

Using an Artists Color Wheel for your Benefit

Color will be the over ruling design medium for your dollhouse furniture and design choices. The desire to coordinate is known throughout any art or design school and is taught at a basic level using a color wheel. The basis of the wheel is that some colors are similar to one another, and others have contrast. Opposing colors are the most different and offer attractiveness to the eye called – contrast, colors touching each other are the most similar and can be accent colors that heighten, but don’t distract from the feel. This by no means is a full explanation of the science of color, but a mere push to get you thinking in the right direction for your dollhouse coordination.
