Clever Small Barbie Doll Accessories: Recommendations
Modern, Victorian, Classical - The Standards of Design
At that moment that you sat back and decided to create your first or next dollhouse you should have had an idea of what it would look like. When you are contemplating your dollhouse design, remember that you are not just picking a room at a time, but the time frame or era in which they were created. This is creating a styling theme. When you get right down to it, you might have your choice set out for you as there are really only three major era styles in dollhouse furniture. Victorian is the first major theme, it is recognized by the embellishments in furniture through long curved lines, elaborate fabric, and old fashioned pieces. Modern furniture is more technological, rigid, and fun - giving you options like Television sets, pool tables, and other modern pieces. The last is the traditional or classical style which will give you a standard look – Nothing to fancy or distinct of any era, but useful in filling your dollhouse.
Adding a Mood
The mood of the room should be a designers motivation and no other, it is the mood that dictates color and furniture, and not the other way around. The mood of the room is chosen by the expectations of those that do, or plan to use it. An example is that you would have a kitchen to eat, have conversation, relax, cook etc. One more example would be the bedroom, the most personal quarters, and is designed for only one person. Just as houses are dictated by mood, a great dollhouse should as well. To help you get in the mood setting, picture the room and the feelings that emanate from that room, then design colors, furniture, and styles to match that setting. As you increase your miniaturist talent with your own dollhouses people will notice the particular moods, and even though they can't quite put there finger on it, they will be impressed.
Making your Miniature House Better: Floor Trim
If you are a true crafter you are constantly tweaking your creations. There are some great things that you can add to your house, and I just simply came across one that helped out a lot. I simply created a floor board to use for the trim around the floor of the dollhouse. The discovery is not entirely new, or my own, there are many places to get doll trim, but I found the cheapest is a very thin flat balsa wood. Simply paint it the color of your dollhouse and attach it to the foot of your walls. What I found is that they covered up the tiny bumps between the walls and the flooring. It also prevented the wall paper to come unglued because I was covering the bottom edges with the trim. This discovery truly was a small one, but I believe that it really added to my dollhouse.
Using an Artists Color Wheel for your Benefit
Ever since we picked up our first box of crayons we have desired to match, mix, and create – It is no different when you have fabric, furniture, and room color choices. The desire to coordinate is known throughout any art or design school and is taught at a basic level using a color wheel. When you are looking at a color wheel, it looks almost like someone took a rainbow and connected the arch into a circle. Opposite colors on the wheel are those with absolute contrast and stability. When starting your designing pick up a color wheel for your color selections, a little knowledge about color coordination will go a long way to help your design and flow capabilities.
