Before we start searching, we have to find out a bit more on the types of clip in hair extensions available, to see which one suits us the most. There are two main types of clip in extensions, natural and synthetic.

First a brief overview on natural hair extensions. These are made from human hair, and the quality depends on the category of the hair. What do we mean by category? Human hair is divided into various categories which determine the quality of each strand. With Grade A hair, for example, you obtain human hair of the finest quality, hand selected so that each strand is the same length with the cuticles aligned. Because of this, grade A human hair clip in extensions can be pricier because of all the work put into making them. Next is grade B and C human hair. The further down the scale you go, the lower the quality, so the extensions will contain hair of different lengths and qualities. They may be cheaper than Grade A hair extensions but it all depends on your needs as well as your budget.

If you want cheaper hair extensions you can choose synthetic ones. These are much more economic than human hair clip in extensions, though they come with some limitations. Before we go into that, let’s talk a bit more about what synthetic clip in extensions are made of. With this type you will find various synthetic fibers including silicone, polyester and monofilament. Given the nature of these materials, the hair will be a lot heavier compared to human hair extensions which brings to the styling limitations of synthetic extensions. Unlike human hair extensions, you can’t use heat styling products to style the synthetic hair because you will damage them. If you blow dry synthetic hair extensions, you will notice that they will often lay flat due to their weight, or blow in the opposite direction of your natural hair. You can’t color synthetic hair extensions either, and they require more maintenance than natural ones.

Synthetic hair extensions are indeed cheaper but less versatile than natural ones, so keep this in mind when buying!
