Clone Your Blog: Save Time And Trouble

Why would you want to clone a Wordpress blog, and how would you go about it?

The Wordpress blogging platform is the most popular on the internet. It is incredibly easy to install using one-click software, such as Fantastico, available on most cPanel-based hosting services. Installing the blog, however, is only half the battle. The next steps can require considerable tedious work.

For example, if you don't want to use the default themes Wordpress provides, you'll need to find and install another theme of your choice. Depending on the theme's complexity and options, it'll require some configuring and set-up. You'll also want to install some essential plug-ins, each of which will require its own configuration and tweaking. And, of course, there are pages you'll want to create for such things as your privacy policy, terms of service, contact information, and disclaimers and disclosures. These are all things the search engines look for and consider important in determining page rankings.

With each new blog you set up, you need to repeat this process - a time-consuming chore, to say the least. It should all be done before you start adding your content and driving traffic. Would you really want to send the world to a site that isn't ready for prime time?

This is one major stumbling block that deters many people from creating new blogs - simply the time and tedium of the whole process. It doesn't have to be that way, though. There are now software products and plug-ins that make creating new blogs, complete with theme and plug-in configurations, as easy as uploading a file via FTP and clicking a button.

The routine is relatively simple:

Set up a new Wordpress installation.
Clone your current blog, and download the clone file.
Upload the clone file to your new blog installation.
Deploy the clone file.

Within a few seconds to a few minutes you will have a fully functional exact duplicate of your original blog. Tweak a few things like title and tagline, and replace the old content with the new. It can be even more simple if you create and clone a blog template, without content, but with your theme and plug-ins configured and your standardized pages, images, etc. in place.

Blog cloning software is definitely something to consider, especially if you plan to create multiple blogs. Even if you don't, it's an excellent way of having a back-up of your entire blog at the ready, in case your original blog gets hacked or deleted, or if your hosting service goes down.
