Clutter Clearing, Organize Your Garage In 6 Easy Steps

The main purpose of a garage is to safely store your car or other vehicle. This can be difficult if your garage is full of storage bins, bikes, scooters, old child toys or whatever else you may have stuck in there over the years. It is no surprise that your garage turns into a junk storage area but if you want to reclaim the space then here are some tips that will help you to reorganize it.

1. The first step is to take everything out of your garage and sort it out. Organize all the stuff by separating it into different categories. Some examples would be sporting equipment, children’s toys, carpentry tools and seasonal decorations. While sorting all this stuff out identify what is broken, out of date or that you just don’t want anymore.

2. Having some proper organizational items will be a big help. After organizing your items decide how you want to store the things you want to keep. Some of the things you may want would include storage bins, bike racks, a shelving system, or maybe a tool chest.

3. Clean out the area. Once the garage is empty be sure to sweep it up and clear away any small trash or debris. You will enjoy the area much more once it looks clean and organized

4. Paint or repair any damage. Before reloading your garage you may want to fix any holes in the walls and give it a fresh coat of paint. This will help brighten up your garage and make it far more welcoming. You could also add paint or sealant to the floor to cover up stains and make it more durable. Changing the colors on the walls and floor is a good idea and while your garage is empty, this is the time to do it.

5. Reorganize. Now that the garage is clean it is time to reorganize everything. Keep this that you use often within easy reach so you don‘t have to make a mess searching for stuff you use. Place items less frequently used further back in the garage or higher up on shelving systems or within cabinets. Label bins and cabinets so you can easily find what you are looking for, and you will know where to put the items when you are done using them.

6. Finally make rules and implement them. This can be as simple as always put stuff away after you use it. This way you will not start building up another pile of disorganized junk.

By following these step you will be able to quickly organize your garage and will have a much cleaner and more organized space. Who knows, maybe you will be able to fit your car in there again.
