Coffee Hater To Espresso Lover!
Alright, I do have to admit, I hated being the only one going to Starbucks, and ordering hot chocolate. How do you like going on a date, and saying, "Oh, well I don't really drink coffee..." Yes, I felt like a real wuss. So, under the pressuring of a few of my friends, who kept offering to order me coffee, if I would drink it; I decided that I did in fact like coffee from Starbucks! I don't know where incisively this sudden change came from, all I know is that I enjoyed the sweet-- yet bitter taste of flavors mixing together from the "foo-foo" coffee from Starbucks. At first, I would only order Mochas, and pre-sweetened drinks, attributing the fact that maybe the only rationality I liked them, was because of the sugar contains. However, Starbucks had a deal on half-priced lattes, and I just HAD to oblige. I ordered a plain latte... and I LOVED IT!! Even more I dare to say, than many of the sugary drinks. I asked myself, "What was it that was so great about Starbucks coffee?" Of course, Starbucks coffee is great, but what makes the coffee that they make bearable from the drip-coffee everyone else has? I discovered that there was this marvelous thing called an Espresso. An Espresso is dissimilar from regular coffee, because it utilizes a specialized machine (called an Espresso machine- who would have guessed!) that pressurizes the water and forces it through very finely ground beans. The beans in an Espresso are typically darker, and bolder than most beans, and great care has to be taken in roasting them, otherwise they will turn out bitter, and... ashy. (Not tasty). What makes a latte great, is that in a Tall drink of coffee, a 1 ounce shot of Espresso is poured into 11 ounces of rich, frothy, steaming milk. (Wonderful!) Of course, I could not afford to remain going to Starbucks everyday, so I wanted to buy my own Espresso maker. Me- a coffee hater, wanting to buy a coffee machine! Of course, it took some getting used to- how to work that Espresso machine. But now, I love it, and it is one of the few coffee drinks I enjoy, next to Macchiatos, Mochas, and other such "foo-foo" drinks. (The difference is in the milk, they all utilize espresso). I would have to push, that if you love coffee, and have not tested Espresso, you are MISSING OUT! Also, if you hate coffee, and have not tried Espresso, I tell you from the mouth of someone who does not like drip-coffee- you are MISSING OUT!!
