Studies show that about 70 percent of colorectal cancer can be or could have been prevented. Having the right diet and avoiding certain types of food have shown that the diet you follow can make a big difference in preventing this disease. It is important to eat healthy while you are getting treated for colorectal cancer. Eating healthy means taking in enough calories so that you stay at a weight optimal for your height and frame. Avoid eating red meat and processed meats. Eat foods that are rich in calcium, folic acid and vitamin D as they help to reduce the risk of colon cancer.
